This gin takes its name from the Bamberg district of Wunderburg. This is the only place in Germany where liquorice, the signature botanical of this gin, is grown. In the past, liquorice cultivation in this area was of great economic importance. The people of Bamberg exported this raw material to Prague, Amsterdam and Venice. It was only with the advent of beet sugar and imported cane sugar that the importance of liquorice diminished. Georg Schumm from Bamberg discovered a special drink on his trip to Great Britain in 1928: gin. It tasted good to him. That was the beginning of Wunderburg Dry Gin. It combines the tradition of growing liquorice with the classic production of gin. The result is a gin based on juniper berries with subtle notes of rosemary and citrus.
