Here comes a real Hamburg boy around the corner. Kaspar Hagedorn and Martin Spieker made the decision to distil their own gin in a pub in Hamburg. The ingredients used come from the Hamburg region and the distillery itself is also located in Hamburg. It is only logical that a true Hamburg seafaring legend was chosen as the namesake: Knut Hansen. He is said to have been an honest guy who couldn't stop himself from travelling to the places he wanted to see. Many adventures were associated with this. And so the gin is also said to symbolise a love of freedom, a thirst for adventure and individuality. On the stoneware bottle, Knut Hansen looks at you with light blue eyes, stern and perhaps a little scary. The contents of the bottle have undergone a traditional process. The botanicals are macerated (soaked in neutral alcohol) and then distilled - in this case four times. And as the light blue strip of paper on the neck of the bottle indicates, there is still a lot of manual labour involved in this gin. The result is a Nordic, raw and fruity fresh gin that is able to maintain a good balance. It will delight beginners as well as fans of classic gins.
A mild, delicate fragrance emanates from the bottle. Juniper and basil and a little cucumber can be recognised. In the mouth, the juniper flavours are more pronounced, accompanied by cucumber and basil. The apple flavour gives the gin complexity, which is supported by fresh citrus accents. The alcohol content of 42% by volume is surprisingly strong without being unpleasantly sharp. The juniper flavour comes through again in the finish.
Recommendation: If you like cucumber, you can add a thin slice of cucumber to your glass.
