As the name suggests, this gin is produced in America, or rather in New York. The elaborately designed bottle is particularly striking. The embossed copper plate, the cork and the solid glass make quite an impression. And rightly so. Brooklyn Gin is one of the most popular American gin brands. The founders Emil Jättne and Joe Santos use neutral alcohol made from corn as the basis for their gin, which is quite unusual. The 11 botanicals are macerated in the alcohol and then distilled. Most of the gin is produced by hand. The result is something to be seen and tasted. This gin is a successful combination that scores with rich, round and classic juniper flavours. It can be drunk neat and can show off its strengths in classic cocktails in particular.
After opening the massive cork, the gin exudes a rather strong odour. The flavours of juniper and citrus are particularly prominent. More in the background is a floral, slightly woody note that seems to come from lavender. A similar picture emerges on the tongue. Initially, a very strong juniper flavour spreads through the mouth, followed by present citrus notes. The floral lavender flavour resonates in the finish and lingers in the mouth for a long time. Overall, Brooklyn Gin is a minimalist with relatively few botanicals and is not very complex. But it is precisely this simplicity that makes this gin so charming.
